FW: How Much Has CG Animation Earned In 2006?

Forwarded to me - from animationnation.com:

How much money animated films have brought to Hollywood so far in 2006? As of 11/17/06 the major studio films have tallied: $870,009,644

This includes: Cars, Ice Age 2, Over the Hedge, Monster House, Ant Bully, Curious George, The Wild, Everyone's Hero, Barnyard and Doogle

Its safe to assume that with Open Season and Happy Feet still to come... the studios will bring in over 1 billion in animated films in theaters alone this year.

An overdue update!

I've been meaning to post at least a weekly update. That can't be so hard, right? There's gotta be time in the week for one lousy update! So, here it is (hopefully not too lousy):

Title change! I'm now the "CG Animation Director" at Nickelodeon. Gone are the days of "Supervising Animator". Do these titles really matter anyway? I guess it reflects what I do more accurately, which is good...

Apprentices Hired! I helped start a new program at Nickelodeon called the "CG Animation Apprentice" program. It's a program where we want to find some of the best new talent out there and develop them into stronger artists and full-time employees. I'll write more about it later because it's a really exciting program, but last Monday we brought in the last 2 for the current cycle. I plan on bringing in more sometime next Spring. Welcome Apprentices!

Maya Classes Started Again! Nickelodeon University started up again last week. I'm teaching two Maya classes - one that's more generalist, and one that focuses on animation. I love teaching, so both will be a lot of fun, but the animation class is what I'm really looking forward too this time around.

The Splats Softball Season Starts! Nickelodeon's team The Splats had our first official game of the season tonight. We had two practice games and were 1-1. But tonight we were missing a ton of the team, and we were handed a healthy loss. Ugh. I had my first ever solo home run though, so that was exciting.

That's all for now...

Teen Titans on TV this Friday

I was bummed when Cartoon Network canceled Teen Titans. It was a really creative and inventive show, and seemed to be a huge hit. But I guess the network geniuses had other ideas. But they're back on the air, if for one night only:
--------------------------------
Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo
Movie Premiere This Friday, Sept. 15, at 7:30 p.m. (e/p)
When a high-tech ninja attacks Titans Tower, the Titans track him to Tokyo. Can our heroes stay out of trouble in the city that never blinks?

These tracks are side by side!

Star Wars

Lucas has released a side by side comparison of the past verisons of Star Wars (1977 release and the changes after). Awesome.

Animation/Petition for Hybrid Cars

There's an animated commercial for hybrid cars that also leads to a petition for the big automakers. Check it out...
