Movie Posters of the Future!

This you gotta see: http://www.xyzrgb.com/holos/soccer.html

Forwarding some info on it:

Next Generation Movie Poster: A Demo

Though I thought we'd be in Back to the Future 2 before seeing anything like this, XYZ RGB has figured out how to put eight seconds (eight seconds!) of video into a single three-dimensional poster.

The film industry is the first target for what XYZ RGB bills as the next-generation movie poster. The company can place a short clip right in the poster, giving people a chance to view a scene without going into the theatre.

The technology is turning heads around the world. When he heard about it, Titanic director James Cameron couldn\u2019t believe the 3-D posters were possible.

He said to me, "if you have discovered imbedded video in plastic, you have discovered the holy grail of advertising,"said Jan-Erik Nyhuus, vice-president of business development for XYZ RGB Inc.

Demonstration video is available to show off the new holographic posters that will hopefully hit theatres sooner than later. Sample Video Of Working Poster: http://www.xyzrgb.com/holos/soccer.html

Still not sure what to make of it, but I love "Seinfeld". I'll still watch it twice a night every night when I can...

Dennis Muren and Pixar!

In an interview with Dennis Muren at vfxworld.com, he discusses work he's doing at Pixar. I'd love to know what ideas he has on pushing the medium! Here's the excerpt where he's discussing it:
BD: You mentioned earlier that you're working part-time at Pixar. What are you doing with them?

DM: Making some suggestions and ideas on some of the visuals. I had some ideas that would give them a different kind of look. So I'm just in there a day or two a week, looking at stuff and talking about it without mucking it up. Their palette is so beautiful. It's just a fantastically artistic place. The CG films that they make are so aesthetically great...and that's one of the reasons I was drawn to them, as well as the stories being so great.

Annie Awards a Huge Success

Sunday night was saw the Annie Awards, the awards ceremony for the animation industry. I'd never been before, and was part of the large Nickelodeon group. The show was great. It's pretty wild to see our industry, which is normally so casual, dressed up as formally as you can get. (A co-worker took some photos and I'll try to get them to post). There was a pre-party on the red carpet out front, the ceremony was about 2 hours long, and then an after party with some good food. Got to see talk with lots of friends, the ceremony was really entertaining, and overall it was a great night. Can't wait for next year, when we'll hope to see "Tak" up there. Congratulations to the Nickelodeon winners (and everybody who won that night!).

Interviewing at Disney

No, not going for a job, hiring for some. A couple of weeks back I had the pleasure of going to Disney Feature Animation and I got to interview 50 (yes, that's 50) people that are being laid off. With "Meet the Robinsons" wrapping and some other projects going through some changes, they're laying off about 120 people. Our Nickelodeon Recruiter Alison Mann had called them asking if they knew of any strong candidates, and Disney set up this event for us to meet with their people.

Every one was so talented and nice, I really wish I could hire them all. So many skilled people makes me want to just get some funding and start a new studio right away! There were some good possible immediate matches, and I now have a long list for when we need more good people in the future. 50 people is a lot to interview in 4 hours, but it was a great time. Disney gets bad-mouthed a lot when they have layoffs like lately, so I thought it's important that people hear about the good they do for their employees as well. Thanks to Disney for setting this up!

Oh, and I got to see tons of the "Robinsons", which looks great, and lots of work from future releases, which I can't talk about, but there's some really great stuff. Knowing a lot about what's going on there, there will be some good surprises coming from Disney.
