At Anki as the Animation Director for the Cozmo robot, I oversaw a team of four animators and worked with different product groups on the behavior and interactions of the robot as well as promotional shorts (“Cozmoments”). For the shorts there was a really interesting challenge. We would come up with scenarios and story beats, and then have to animate the robot in advance of filming, essentially creating Cozmo’s performance ahead of time. Then on set we’d have the physical robot (not CG) act out what was preprogrammed, working with set pieces and actors.

The top video is an homage to Terminator 2, where we hit the spirit of one sequence from the film, and was unique in that it was a fully animated CG short.
